LITHEX
A lithium battery fire is a dangerous type of fire and must be extinguished with a special fire extinguisher. This type of battery is found in many commonly used devices such as power banks, mobile phones, laptops, electric cars, electric bicycles. The reason why these batteries cause intense and fast spreading fires is because of damage, manufacturing defects or overheating.
WHERE CAN PORTABLE LITHEX BE USED?
These portable fire extinguishers can be used in the home, office, service stations, repair shops, vehicles, warehouses, manufacturing plants, etc.
HOW DOES A LITHIUM-ION BATTERY IGNITE?
Thermal instability in a lithium battery is referred to as thermal runaway. Thermal leakage occurs when burning gases are emitted from the lithium-ion battery.
The main cause of a lithium battery fire is:
Careless handling - excessive pressure during transport or the battery falling to the floor can cause a thermal leak.
Short circuit - can be caused by improper storage, damage, for example.
Overheating - a lithium battery can overheat, especially during the summer months or by improper handling.near a heater, on asphalt surfaces and in places where temperatures are extremely high.
Physical damage - a lithium battery can explode, for example, during recycling.
Unsuitable environment - if a lithium battery is exposed to moisture, rainwater, salt air, it can short circuit causing thermal leakage.
HOW TO PREVENT A LITHIUM BATTERY FIRE?
The main warning signs of a fault in a lithium battery include unwanted smoke, odour, excessive heating of the battery or possibly cracking etc.
If you want to protect yourself and your surroundings from this very dangerous type of fire, we recommend the following:
- Use the original charger that came with your purchased device.
- Protect the battery from high temperatures
- Do not overcharge already charged batteries
- Charge batteries in fireproof charging bags, e.g. VLITEX XL fireproof charging bag
- Do not charge damaged, deformed, bloated lithium batteries
You can equip your home with additional lithium battery fire protection equipment such as fire tarps and drapes.
