Extinguishing lithium batteries
In most cases, a lithium battery fire occurs suddenly and with high intensity. The main cause is overheating of the battery, which occurs, for example, due to external damage to the battery.external damage, internal defects, overcharging or the use of non-original chargers.
In the subsequent chemical reaction inside the battery, additional heat and gases are generated, causing the temperature and pressure in the lithium battery to rise steadily to the point of fire or even explosion.
Having the right fire extinguishers in place is an essential step in protecting against these fires. We offer specially designed mobile LITHEX fire extinguishers that not only extinguish flames effectively, but also cool the battery quickly and prevent it from reigniting.
If, for example, a powder or water extinguisher were used to extinguish a lithium battery fire, the extinguishing would be ineffective or even dangerous.
Mobile fire extinguishers for extinguishing lithium batteries are interesting mainly because of their higher extinguishing agent content. They are suitable as part of fire-fighting equipment and prevention in large industrial and warehousing facilities, petrol stations, airports or hangars and wherever lithium batteries are present.
Primarily designed to extinguish Class A fires and lithium battery fires, they can also be used to extinguish electrically powered equipment (up to 1000 V from a minimum distance of 1 m). Afterwards, refilling for further use is possible. The extinguishing agent contains vermiculite, which is not electrically conductive and is almost twice as effective as water. The extinguishing agent is non-toxic and the fact that the device releases only steam makes it environmentally friendly.
