Fire extinguishers with pressure cartridge

The difference between a fire extinguisher under constant pressure and an extinguisher with a pressure cartridge is obvious at a glance. An extinguisher with an internal pressure cartridge is only pressurised at the time of use by means of a Co2-filled propellant gas which allows the extinguishing agent to be discharged. The extinguisher is activated by a lever trigger mechanism which, when the safety catch is removed and pressed, causes the pressure cartridge and thus release the discharge gas required to expel the extinguishing agent.

WHAT CLASSES OF FIRE ARE POWDER EXTINGUISHERS DESIGNED FOR?
Powder extinguishers are the best-selling type, mainly due to their versatile use. They are designed to extinguish the following classes of fire:

  • Class A - solid or organic materials such as wood, coal, paper, textiles or plastics.
  • Class B - flammable liquids such as gasoline, petroleum oil, paint, or diesel
  • Class C - flammable gases such as natural gas, propane-butane or methane

WHERE CAN THE EXTINGUISHER BE USED?
Fire extinguishers with a pressure cartridge are suitable for use in industrial areas, the energy sector, but also in transport and in virtually all plants.

WHAT ARE THE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF PRESSURE CARTRIDGE EXTINGUISHERS?
Pressure cartridge extinguishers are usually manufactured with different filling capacities. We offer a 6 l foam extinguisher and a 9 kg powder extinguisher. The extinguishers are also built to withstand extreme temperatures, typically ranging from -30°C - +60°C, allowing them to be used in a variety of climates.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RATING OF THE EXTINGUISHER?
The extinguishing capability, or rating, is represented on the extinguisher by a combination of numbers and letters (e.g. 27A 183B etc.).The numbers indicate the size of the standard fire to be extinguished and the letters indicate the class of each fire. Thus, in the above example 27A 183B, the extinguishing power is 27 for fire class A and 183 for fire class B. Fire class A has a total of 8 different levels for extinguishing power and class B has a total of 9. The highest levels that a fire extinguisher can reach are 55A and 233B. For class C fire, it is checked whether the appliance will extinguish the escaping gas from the pipe. Thus, for class C, a numerical value is not given.
