Portable fire extinguishers

Portable fire extinguishers are one of the most important key elements of fire safety. Portable fire extinguishers are important for a rapid response to an emerging fire and their use is designed to extinguish firessmall and medium scale fires for example in homes, public buildings, offices, industrial facilities and vehicles. Fire extinguishers are portable in order to allow quick, easy action in the event of a fire and to prevent further spread of the fire.

CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE CLASSES

Portable fire extinguishers are classified according to the type of fire they are capable of extinguishing. The fire classes are indicated by the capital letters A, B, C, D and F. These letters indicate the type of material burning, from solids (wood, plastic, paper) to liquids (gasoline, petroleum oil, paint) to gases (propane, butane, methane), metals (magnesiumk, lithium, titanium, aluminium) to oils and fats (vegetable, sunflower, olive, butter and lard) used in kitchens and catering facilities. We have a special designation for lithium battery fires in the form of a battery - it is not a class of fire. In this category we include electric scooters, mobile phones, tablets, laptops, electronic cigarettes, e-bikes and others.

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A FIRE EXTINGUISHER'S FIREFIGHTING CAPABILITY?

The extinguishing capability is represented on the extinguisher by a combination of numbers and letters (e.g. 21The numbers indicate the size of the standard fire to be extinguished and the letters indicate the class of each fire. Thus, in the example given 21A 144B, the extinguishing power is 21 for fire class A and 144 for fire class B. Fire class A has a total of 8 different levels for extinguishing power and class B has a total of 9. The highest levels that a fire extinguisher can reach are 55A and 233B. For class C fire, it is checked whether the appliance will extinguish the escaping gas from the pipe and for class D, whether it will extinguish the combustible metal. No numerical value is given for these two classes, C and D. The letter F indicates the value of how many litres of burning oil can be extinguished in the kitchen.

HOW IS THE EXTINGUISHER USED?

Using a portable fire extinguisher is very simple. The first step is to release the safety catch and then point the hose at the base of the fire, not at the flames. The extinguishing agent must then be applied in a steady and even motion in such a way that the entire area of the fire is covered. Once the fire has been extinguished, it is important to check the fire area carefully to prevent any possible re-ignition.

To ensure that the extinguishers are fully functional, our company offers inspections and repairs that are carried out by service technicians with many years of experience and expertise.
