Extinguishing Lithium batteries

Batteries are a tricky business, whether you have them in your e-bike, e-scooter or mobile phone. If they are damaged or have a fault, there is a risk of them catching fire. In electric bikes (but also in electric cars) much complicated by the fact that inside the bike/car hides essentially most of theand a possible ignition then leads to a gradual reaction. Moreover, a flare-up has pretty clear consequences - if the battery stays on the bike, you usually lose the bike. In addition, you yourself are at risk of getting burned.
Lithium battery fires reach very high temperatures (up to +3000°C) and are therefore very difficult to extinguish with conventional fire extinguishing agents. Known extinguishing agents such as powder, foam or water are insufficient because these extinguishing agents cannot reach the source of the fire (in this case the chain reaction of the cells inside the battery). These fires must be extinguished by special means.

Recommendation: Never leave equipment containing lithium batteries unattended, especially when charging, and have a fire extinguishing device that can bring any fire under control.
