Lith Ex

Lith Ex extinguishers and spray are suitable for extinguishing lithium battery fires in the initial phase. The extinguishing agent contains vermiculite, which occurs naturally in nature, and is also chemically and physically inert. It releases only vapour when exposed to higher temperatures and is therefore sterile. Lith Ex finds its application in industrial sites and manufacturing plants, but also in homes, shortly wherever there is a lithium battery source.

In most cases, a lithium battery fire occurs suddenly and with high intensity. The main cause is overheating of the battery, which occurs, for example, due to external damage to the battery.external damage, internal defects, overcharging or the use of non-original chargers.
In the subsequent chemical reaction inside the battery, additional heat and gases are generated, causing the temperature and pressure in the lithium battery to rise steadily to the point of fire or even explosion.
Having the right fire extinguishers in place is an essential step in protecting against these fires. We offer specially designed LITHEX fire extinguishers and sprays that not only effectively extinguish the flames, but also quickly cool the battery and prevent it from reigniting.
If, for example, a powder or water extinguisher were used to extinguish a lithium battery fire, the extinguishing would be ineffective or even dangerous.

AND WHAT IS THE EXTINGUISHER MADE OF?
AVD is an aqueous dispersion of chemically exfoliated vermiculite. It is applied to lithium battery fires as a mist to extinguish them and prevent further spread. Vermiculite is the name of a group of hydrated laminar silicates of aluminum, iron and magnesium. It consists of thin, flat flakes containing microscopic layers of water. Chemical exfoliation of vermiculite produces microscopic, single platelets that are freely suspended in water. This produces a stable aqueous dispersion of vermiculite which is used as a fire extinguishing agent for lithium batteries.

HOW DOES AVD WORK?
The vermiculite particles in the mist deposit on the surface of the burning fuel and form a film. The film dries instantly, and as the particles of the high aspect ratio plates overlap and combine, a non-flammable oxygen barrier is formed between the fuel and the atmosphere. This process has a cooling effect on the fuel source and when the water content of the AVD evaporates, the vermiculite platelets begin to accumulate and the fire is brought under control.

AVD EXTINGUISHING CAPABILITIES
- Reduces heat spread
- Isolates the fuel source
- Creates a barrier against oxygen
- Effective against various types of lithium batteries
- Minimises the risk of re-ignition
